What do I need to become a Florida mold assessor MRSA or mold remediator MRSR certification and license?
Please visit the DBPR mold related services website for information regarding licensing requirements. This list may not include all necessary information.
The State of Florida application for mold related services licensure states you may apply for the mold related services license with the following education and experience requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age
- 2 yr degree requires 1 year of work experience
- 4 year degree requires no other work experience
- High school diploma with 4 years (60 projects) of related industry work experience to include but not limited to;
previous mold assessment and remediation experience, building inspections and or forensic inspections, building contracting.

- Mold Assessor: A two-year associate's degree or higher in a related field of science, or 4 years of documented field experience.
- Mold Remediator: A two-year associate's degree or higher in a related field of science, or 4 years of documented field experience.
- Mold Assessor: A two-year associate's degree or higher in a related field of science, or 4 years of documented field experience.
- Experience:
- Mold Assessor: At least one year of experience in mold assessment or a related field.
- Mold Remediator: At least one year of experience in mold remediation or a related field.
- Mold Assessor: At least one year of experience in mold assessment or a related field.
- Training: Demonstrated training in water (moisture intrusion), mold, and respiratory protection.
- Examination: Pass a state-approved written examination for either mold assessor or remediator.
- Background Check: A criminal background check is required.
- Insurance: Applicants for a Mold Remediator license are required to attest that they have obtained general liability insurance in the amount of no less than $1 million dollars.
- Application: Complete a MyFloridaLicense.com application and pay the required fees.
